There's a delightful secret about San Diego Comic-Con that becomes clear as you run around and photograph cosplayers: The con isn't only about comic books. It's really a celebration of all things pop culture. So while you are guaranteed to see various Star Wars characters and Marvel and DC icons roaming the streets of San Diego in July, it's the cosplayers who collaborate on original costumes that have nothing at all to do with a comic book or superhero property that get our attention, and make us salute their efforts.
Because as we all know. If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball... and dress up like a team at San Diego Comic-Con to celebrate Dodgeball!
These are the cosplay costumes that impress me the most. The ones that involve multiple players, all striving for the same look. At one point, while walking the floor of the Convention Center, I saw the entire Spider-Man family, from Spider-Gwen to Spider-Man 2049. And the costumes were perfect, with outstanding detail.
They'd hold their own against this awesome recreation of the Scooby-Doo gang. Anyone who commits to holding on to a dog doll to complete a costume gets bonus points for us.
